In this blog I help to unpick how hypnotherapy can help not only overcome distressing symptoms of the menopause. But also just how hypnotherapy and mindset coaching helps to move a woman positively through this life changing phase.
The onset of the menopause for many women can be a huge struggle to cope with. Not just because of the physical and hormonal changes. The menopause comes at a time when we are dealing with lots of change- such as juggling the needs of elderly parents, divorce, children going to university, flying the nest, moving through puberty etc as well as changing work situations.
This is a subject close to my heart. Because I know that for me I found in the beginning when I hit the menopause the night time sweats, the stress and anxiety and resulting panic attacks difficult and overwhelming. All of this came at a time when I was juggling a significant career change and the growing needs and (challenges) of teenage daughters.
For many women they report the following symptoms:
- Hot flushes
- Anxiety and stress
- Overwhelm and lack of focus and motivation.
- Decreased sex drive and feeling unattractive.
- Weight gain
- Mood swings and low mood.
All of the above symptoms lead to a peri-menopausal and menopausal woman feeling out of control and can lead to poor quality sleep and a loss in confidence.
Looking Forward – Your Turn Now
It’s not all doom and gloom though. With the right help you can come to and go through the menopause with a positive attitude. When I’m working with female clients I help them to get back a sense of choice by guiding them:
- To manage their physical and emotional symptoms with hypnosis.
- Signpost them to the best specialists to manage nutrition exercise and any menopausal related medication advice.
- To gain a sense of balance. By helping them to make the right choices for what’s best for them for this next potentially exciting phase in their lives..
This time also can coincide with a feeling of liberation. Many women, including myself choose their mid life to change tack: such as:
- Studying for a new career or setting up a fresh business.
- Moving to a new area.
- Perusing a new passion.
With a feeling of ‘this is my time now’ to choose to live the life they have been holding back, from whilst developing a career and bringing up a family.
Where Hypnotherapy Gets You Back in Control
As well as hot flushes and feeling overwhelmed I felt at times overcome with mood swings. I thankfully managed many of my symptoms with hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is an effective way of harnessing our natural psychological and physiological states to enable you to achieve the change that you desire. The power of suggestion helps to manage those symptoms that are causing you discomfort and anxiety.
When I work with a client the essential part of the process is guiding her, towards embracing positive options. We spend a significant part of the consultation focusing on what you want and needs to change. Then we identify how you do want to feel and how to control your unwanted symptoms. A crucial element is that you feel heard and listened to. We take time to build a trusting relationship with me, your hypnotherapist. We do this because your subconscious needs to trust and want the proposed change to be beneficial, effective and long lasting.
The wealth of research that has been carried out on hypnotherapy shows that it can be particularly helpful for:
- Managing anxiety and stress
- Overcoming sleep problems
- Reducing the intensity and number of hot flushes during menopause
- Working to achieve healthy weight loss
- Increase motivation and energy
- Boosting self confidence
The bottom line is that there are more options available for women experiencing the challenges of menopause. It isn’t something that you just have to put up with.
Hypnotherapy is perfect for those women who not only want to focus on getting back in control particularly of their weight gain, sleep, and hot flushes. But also to focus on your relationships and creating the life you choose to live. This is a time to maximise this next phase in your life to embrace it fully and healthily on your terms.
